Kids Who Read Succeed
Book Worm Angels is Chicago’s only literacy program providing in-classroom lending libraries to public elementary schools where the majority of students read below grade level.
Because of you and other generous donors, Book Worm Angels has distributed more than two million books to over 100,000 at risk students. Please help us continue by making a donation to Book Worm Angels.

There is universal agreement that literacy is key to success in school, at work and in life. Educators also tell us that kids who read at home and who read for fun and pleasure do better at school.
Yet, too many children still struggle with basic literacy skills, particularly in our city’s poorest neighborhoods. Most of these kids have no books at home. Many have no reading role models. Some are second language learners. Whatever the reason, the result is the same: poor reading scores and the resulting compromises in other life skills.
In Chicago, alone, there are over 250 elementary schools where the majority of the children read below grade level or are from low income families. The children in those schools rarely see anyone reading for enjoyment, and come to think of reading as work…worse yet, SCHOOL work. Book Worm Angels changes these dynamics. It establishes classroom lending libraries in those schools so that children can discover that reading can be enjoyable…and by so doing, learn to read better…and in time to become better students.
